Do you have a loved one getting taken advantage of?
It’s devastating to realize at the end of a loved ones life that they’ve been taken advantage of. I was recently told of a relative living in another state, no kids. She was an independent woman in many ways until the very end. A younger man moved in next door a few years ago. He took her to appointments, called himself her son. Eventually, he took her to the lawyers office and changed her will and trust as well as made himself the POA. The family now has hit dead end after dead end because she was aware of the decisions she was making while signing the paperwork. She signed over millions of inheritance over to a neighbor that she knew for the few last years of her life, falsifying his identity as her son to the community and providers.
The family was involved but felt like she had a great “friend” taking her to appointments. They didn’t know the extent her new found, “fake son” had taken it.
With a service like ours, you can entrust, your loved one is being advocated for, you’re informed of what we do on a monthly basis, and we will never be the counterfeit to take advantage of an elder.
My parents are struggling at home, but refuse assistance. What do I do now?

How do we advocate? Just recently I worked with a client that was told by a community that they would need to be moved to a semi private room while they received therapy because of insurance. Into further investigation I found that they charge the same for a private and a semi private room and it was not necessary to be moved. Upon Further investigation it was made known she hadn’t had therapy for 4 days because the community dropped the ball on re authorizing her therapy. They also did not provide her the option of appealing her private insurance company, didn’t provide her proper notice and did not have a discharge plan in place. When I asked what the plan for payment would be they assumed she would pay privately. I corrected them on the proper procedure on notifying someone when they would be charged privately, proper procedure on discharge planning, and proper procedure to ensure someone isn’t left in their room for 4 days without therapy. After speaking with insurance, administration, and clinicians, her stay was paid for.
If you know of someone that has aging parents, please let me advocate for them. My monthly fee is $75 a month but it can save someone a lot of money and grief in the long run.

We worked with the community they wanted their loved one and the next day they were where they wanted to be to do their rehabilitation. Let us help you. Let me tell you a story about an older gentlemen. He’s been independent and proud his entire life. He didn’t ask for help, he helped others. He is a very proud man and he has noticed that he has some signs of needing some things, however, he chose to walk alone. He took a walk outside and fell in a hole.
He didn’t want to ask for help so he spent hours tryin not to draw attention to himself while figuring out how to get out of this hole. He realized he would need to ask for help to get out. He called his friend over and they tried to get him out of the hole. The friend meant well, however, he was not skilled in this realm. The friend said I am going to call a doctor to get you out of the hole.
The doctor came. The gentlemen said, “well, I’m cold and I think I may have some pain. I hurt myself falling into this hole”. The doctor wrote him a script and said he would like to see him again in a few weeks.
The gentlemen was still in the hole when I walked by. I asked him if I could help him get out of that hole. He said, “yes, no one else is experienced in getting me out of this hole”. I jump in the hole with him. He yells, “What are you doing? I’ve been stuck in this hole, now you’re in here with me! How are we going to get out?” I say, “Don’t worry I know this hole. I’ve been here before and I know exactly how to get you out. Let me guide you.”

The first step is to be open-minded when it comes to their wishes. Designing a persons Life Plan is done by collecting facts from their past and present to prepare for the best and worse case scenarios of the future. This includes their beliefs, experiences, clinical diagnosis, and services needed now and later. Ensuring legal documents that are needed for hospital visits, nursing home visits, and understanding insurance coverage are readily available. Medicare/Medicaid/VA Benefits clarity are a necessity when navigating services.
Many loved ones aren't comfortable in asking difficult questions. Asking a person about their finances, decisions when facing a serious illness, who will be appointed to make those decisions, family conflicts, social networks, relationships and communication with physicians and other healthcare providers, services needed now and in the future can cause tension and needs preparation. As your Senior Transitions Guide, we can ease your fears and prepare for the future which will lead you to a peace of mind. Call us at 402-209-3638.

She became a Certified Nurses Aide while working her way through college where she earned her Masters Degree in Healthcare Management. She studied nursing courses and became a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. For years she has worked as an Executive Director for Skilled Nursing Facilities, Assisted Livings, and Hospice Houses. She has worked with home health companies and knows what it means to care for your loved ones.
